GAWH KIWIN'S has helped at the Rose Float, the LA Regional Food Bank, and Adopt-A-Highway. Hello fellow KIWIN'S members!
I hope you all are having a good second semester. It is now March and District Convention is fast approaching. As I said in our meetings, I have already sent out our hotel reservations as well as our registration and I checked usps.com today and they said the packages were delivered. So...yay! I'm happy to say we have quite a large number of members going this year! Mr. Wallach & Mr. Bashir will be our advisors at DCON so I hope you attendees remain on your best behavior!
Anyway, award forms for DCON were mailed in a few weeks ago and Prejudging time is upon us! At Prejudging, members will be tallying up scores, reading awards forms and helping out in deciding who will win what award this year. I highly encourage you guys, especially lowerclassmen, to attend. This serves as a fantastic learning experience as well as a great opportunity to meet members from around SoCal. Here's the info...
Time: 1PM - 4PM
Date: Sunday, March 4th (!!)
Place: 100 South Alameda Street.
Los Angeles, CA 90012
How?: Contact Me at my email: dianeheartsyou@gmail.com
We have about two extra spots open, so email me quick!
Remember the food sorting we did at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank? Well we're going to do it again! Due to popular demand and request from the FB to come back, we've decided to have more events planned at the food bank. The dates are mainly in March, May and June. Once we get the dates hammered out, we'll contact you all ASAP, so be sure to come to the meetings!
KIWIN'S week in the beginning of February was a major success. Although the planning was a bit rocky, the events pulled through nicely and we are very happy with the results. Food sales last Friday were also a success. We sold out of boba in the first ten or so minutes so thanks to all the members for supporting us!
Conclave was also a success. Anisha, our VP was endorsed by the division and I was elected your future Lt.G. (=
That's all for now, but be sure to come to meetings every Wednesday in Room D-18!
Yours in Service & Friendship,
Diane Lieu

Woooo!
ALSO, ANISHA HINGORANI, CO VP got endorsed by our awesome Goldstone division for District Publications Editor!!!!
Yay, I'm so proud of you two and I know that Diane will do a great job, and Anisha WILL if she gets it! =) Conclave was pretty exciting, there were green balloons at each table as the centerpieces and my favorite color is green, so that was cool. Anisha and Diane made great speeches, their literature was bright and fun and crazy and we should all give them a great big round of applause!
Ok that's all for now,
Jasmine Hui

As many of you know, we had a Fund-raiser at Nanas Grill on the Thursday after Finals, (1/25) Monica, our treasurer would like to thank those who came out to support the club. It was greatly appreciated even though we didn't make as much as expected. Thanks so much for your effort!
So, last Friday and Saturday, the 26th & 27th of January, Los Altos KIWIN'S and GAWHS KIWIN'S worked together in two events, the School Help-Out at Los Molinos and the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast. I hope all of you who attended had fun and enjoyed mingling with our awesome fellow KIWIN'S-ers! These interclubbing events were definitely fun and we hope to see many more in the future!
Alright, now looking to the future! We have a lot of events lined up this month including KIWIN'S week which starts next Monday on the 5th of February. So, as many of you know, we had a wonderful ice skating social today at the KHS Ice Arena in Anaheim. I'd like to thank you all for coming because it was so great to see a ton of member show up and have fun. While we didn't get to play ice breakers due to the arena rules, I do hope you got to know your fellow members better today. After all, it isn't a social if you aren't being social!
Anyway, Josh and I would like to give a supreme "Thanks!" to our Co-Vice Presidents Anisha Hingorani and Brian (Jersey) Wong for coordinating the entire event. We were very proud to see the whole thing come together and the overwhelming(ly awesome) amount of people who showed up.
Alright, now to future events! So, in the month of December, many members attended the LA Regional Food Bank Food Sorting, an event where we all drive to the LA Regional Food Bank and sort through food donations so they can be packed up and sent out to needy families. It was actually a lot of fun and very gratifying. THUS, we are also going to be attending the January version of this event. Here's the lowdown:
WHO: Any & all of you
WHAT: Food Sorting @ LA Reg. FB
WHEN: Saturday, January 27th. 9:00AM - 12:15PM
WHERE: 1734 East 41st Street. Los Angeles, CA 90058
WHY: Because its fun & because its a great opportunity to help the needy!
HOW: Sign -up at the next meeting on JAN. 17TH!
Yep! So I hope to see as many or more sign-ups compared to the December one, since y'all aren't on vacation or anything. (I hope!)
Also, as a reminder, Candidate's Forum South is...
Date: January 20th
Time: 1 PM - 4PM
Place: 16400 Brookhurst St. Fountain Valley, CA 92708
Please show up on time.
Candidates Forum is for people who are interested in running for District Board next year. Come & learn about the positions and what the jobs entail! Great for lowerclassmen who want to are interested in learning more about the jobs of KIWIN'S as well.
Also, if you are interested in seeing what other clubs in our district are doing, reading updates from our Governor, or getting the inside dish on important new district info, check out the FOS! The FOS or "Focus on Service" is a seasonal magazine, so to speak, that is created by the District Bulletin Editor, our very own Sylvia Tang! It has excellent information and news from other clubs and is very informative. I highly suggest you click on the link and read through a few of the articles and updates. (You'll need Adobe PDF reader to do so)
So, that's all for this update. I hope you guys have a safe and productive January. Do well on your finals & be sure to study.
Make sure you attend the weekly meetings on Wednesday! They're very important if you want to stay in the "know" and want to be a good member! Also, make sure you read these updates thoroughly! (:

Moving on to business, the month of December is surely a busy one. We all have gifts to buy and to wrap, projects to complete, and many other tasks at hand. I would like to remind you all that we have a lot of very exciting events in store for the club. We have Rose Float dates prepared for enthusiastic members as well as a clothing and blanket donation drive for the needy starting December 11th to December 15th. We have also planned to go to the LA Regional Food Bank to sort out food donations on 12/16/06. So keep your eyes and ears peeled for these events. Sign-ups will take place at this week's meeting , so be sure to go!
I would like to take a moment to thank all members of this club for putting time and effort into our events and causes. It's really gratifying to see students who already have so much on their plate go to events like Rose Float and other events we've had. I hope that you all have a fantastic holiday season and winter break. Hopefully I'll get to see some of you at the events planned during the break like the Food Sorting at the LA Food Bank and Rose Float.
